Shaping Up!

As I experimented with the possibility of casting images  (oversized foot)   which would be the view looking up from the man hole cover.Something changed I didnt have a genuine interest in pursuing that idea any longer. What was holding and maintaining my interest was basic simple shapes that had come from the designs on the man hole covers

The simple shapes derived from the objects are uncomplicated, simple even overlooked just like the objects themselves was initially.  How many times a day do we encounter these shapes in our everyday lives? So many times I feel that they have become almost mudane. That is why I want to explore these simple, beautiful and uncomplicated shapes such as the square, rectangel and line.

Re arranging shapes to translate into print.

Working with the shapes through print sets me on another train of thought. It feels like the natural thing for me to do. Loose the methodical layout and design.Using my own intuition re arrange the shapes to create an aesthetic balance. This time using paint. I havent introduced colour yet, as I feel the simplicity of the subject is also reflected in the non  colours of black, white an grey.

Wall of inspiration from my studio space.

Introduction of colour and how it interacts with the shapes

Piet Mondrian (Dutch 1872-1944) is the artist that I am currently resreaching and identifying it. He was a leading figure in the De Stijl Art Movement. They advocated pure abstraction and simplicity form reduced to the rectangle and other geometric shapes ad colour to the primary colours, along with black and white.
